Valdivia museum

The oldest cultures of South America flourished at the rivers of the Guayas basin:

  • Valdivia, about 4000 B.C.
  • Chorrera, around 2000 B.C.
  • Machalilla until 1300 B.C.

Part of the legacy of these cultures can be found in the museum of the neighbouring village Valdivia. The museum guide likes to talk about how he himself was part of the excavations.

Even today, ceramic figures and clay fragments are uncovered during the ploughing of the acres. Often, tourists are offered cheap copies for sale.
